MARCH IS WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH

                                                                          HAPPY SAINT PATRICK DAY!

SUPPORT:  As we enter the third month of 2024, we thank everyone for allowing us to be your officers and ask for continued support again. Welcomed is Ronald Sondergard (Navy Veteran) as the new Vice President. Also, we thank Jason Bathon (Navy Veteran) for all he has done for our chapter during his tenure as Vice President. We are fortunate that Jason will remain a chapter member. Appointees Chaplain Moses Stewart, Sergeant of Arms Bill Quinley, and Website Administrator Vickie Guillot will stay in their positions—a big THANK YOU to them.

Last year, we recruited six new members. We still need your help to increase our membership and to remain the only TREA Chapter in KS.Moreover, remember to renew your TREA membership.

Even though we are forty-three strong, thanks to the support and devotion of members like you, our chapter will continue to grow, be strong, and accomplish new goals. We are far from done!

WELLNESS:  Shirley Wagner and Rachel Holt Fikes. Keep them in your thoughts and prayers for healing.

MARCH BIRTHDAYS:  Miles Hiyane. If your birthday is not listed, let us know so we can include you the next time.

FEBRUARY MEETING TIDBITS:  Fifteen members attended the meeting. The meeting attendance drawing winner was Steve Murrison ($20 gift card). Taft Yates installed the Chapter officers for 2024. The budget was finalized and accepted. There were many suggestions on ways to raise funds, possible locations for events, a new storage location for our furniture and supply items, etc. Treasurer Roger Thull presented the12/08/13 through 02/09/24 financial report with a balance of $4251.41, including two deposits and four debits, accepted by voice vote.

AIR FORCE WARRANT OFFICERS: Air Force officials are considering bringing back warrant officers and may start creating a training program this year, reversing a decision from 65 years ago when the service ended that grade. The three-page planning order says that "great power competition"-- Defense Department lingo for escalating defense spending and resources against adversaries such as China -- is underscoring the need to resurrect warrant officers, the corps of highly technical service members who are above the enlisted ranks but below the commissioned officer ranks.

2024/2025 TREA NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP: TREA plans to give up to $20,000 in scholarships to children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of TREA members in good standing (deceased or otherwise). Each applicant must write an essay on the following topic: "What do you think about the benefits given to illegal immigrants compared to US Citizens and Veterans who have served our country?" (non-political opinion on this issue)

For information on Scholarship criteria and an application, go to http://www.trea.org.   No later than March 31, 2024, applications must be postmarked.

GUEST SPEAKERS: Do you know any POTENTIAL guest speaker veterans or non-veteran officials we haven't had as speakers? Provide us with their name and phone number, and we'll contact the individual.

QUOTE FOR SAINT PATRICK DAY: "Wishing you a day filled with joy, laughter, food, and maybe a pot of gold at the end of your rainbow." Unknown
