PRESIDENT’S COMMENTS: Hope that Your Holiday Gatherings were all safe and secure and everyone got caught up on family updates. As we move forward in our planning for TREA Chapter 16, we have established a budget that we must strive to stay within, and with this thought, our monthly income requires us to bring in an average of $140.00 per meeting of which we are just below this figure. We are not in any Danger, just needed to bring this up. As with other Veteran Groups, Membership remains our TOP PRIORITY. We have a great group. Following on Facebook, it looks like Moses & Warden Stewart Had a great visit to South Carolina. I wish that all of you enjoy your summer, keep it safe, and may the Lord Continue to guide and Bless you All.
Your President: Dick Trow

ROLL-CALL RETIREES: The Army is looking for recruiters and instructors to go back on active duty. The army is short on recruiters, and as hundreds of thousands of American teenagers graduate high school and ― perhaps ― turn their attention to enlisting, the service is pulling out all the stops to man those recruiting stations. Specifically, the service is looking for 150 retired staff sergeants and sergeants first class, who have either been recruiters or instructors, to come back on active duty. The Army also is looking for a handful of officers and warrants.

  1. RILEY RETIREE APPRECIATION DAY (RAD): The 2018 RAD will be on October 20th (Saturday). This is a first time that the RAD is being held on a Saturday. The reason is to accommodate retirees who work Monday thru Friday. More about the RAD will be forthcoming at a later date.

JUNE MEETING TIDBITS: Ronald Gallant was the attendance drawing winner ($20.00 Gift Card). Guest Speaker was Jamie Allen, Saline County Election Officer. Some of the subjects she spoke about were: 2018 election dates and hours, voter registration requirements, advance ballots by mail, poll locations, gubernatorial primary election, deadline to change party affiliation, and voter ID law. Discussed was adherence to the chapter 2018 budget. A volunteer list for working at the recruiting booth was prepared; nine members volunteered for booth duty. Treasurer S. Wagner gave a financial report for May 11 to June 8, 2018; current checking balance $1195.24.

HOUSE PASSES BLUE WATER NAVY BILL: Recently, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Act, which would partially restore the presumption of Agent Orange exposure to those who served on ships in the bays, harbors and territorial seas of South Vietnam. The legislation also extends the presumption of herbicide exposure for veterans who served on or near the Korean DMZ between September 1, 1967, and August 31, 1971. The bill now moves to the Senate, and Expectations are that it will go through without much trouble.
